5 out of 5 stars Best handheld I've seen   February 1, 2010

I have been pleasantly surprised with this tool. I have used the $1000 scanners and didn't get as much data from them. If this lasts as long as it's expensive counterparts, every diagnostic/drivability mechanic in the country should have one.

We bought this unit to check our fleets short term fuel correction by measuring the oxygen sensors voltage readings which it states it can do.
However, it wouldn't communicate with our 2006 Ford F-250 SD or two 2005 Ford F-150. It comes up with communication link errors so we contacted Autel by e-mail. Nothing! Then we went to their site which has a complaint form which we filled out and hit send... only to find out that it is a false front. Again, nothing was sent. So, we printed the form and filled it out explaining what our problem was and E-mailed it to their support E-mail posted and have heard nothing.
My suggestion would be... Run, especially if you are working on Ford pick ups.

What we found really interesting is how Amazon has stepped up to the plate!
They have sent me a return label and are taking it back.
They have also tried to contact Altel (in China) and tried to use their web site and have had the same success we had.
Amazon! You are Stand Up! Thank you!!!

Autel MaxiScan MS509. A previous review was heavy on critisim for this unit. The problem the previous person had was that Toyota utilizes the J1962 OBDII connector on vehicles that ARE NOT OBDII compliant. Unfortunately you have to be a qualified mechanic who is in the game like I am to know this.
I use the MS509 in my workshop on all late model OBDII vehicles. The unit is fast uplinking to the PCM and just as quick checking for codes. Freeze Frame Data and Live Data are easily accessable and the little apprentice boy likes it because if he cannot understand the sensor code (i.e. IAC) he can push the ? mark button and it explains to him what he needs to know.
I have done one upload if updated software and it is pretty brainless to do.
Would recommend that you know a little bit about what your doing before to do any diagnostics on your own vehicle if you are a Do It Yourself handyman. Otherwise you could cause yourself grief and post reviews that are not a realistic evaluation.
Awesome Product for the Money.
